There is something incredibly vulnerable about standing in front of a camera when the entire point is you. I was in the middle of a season of enormous change and starting over, and I wasn’t entirely sure yet who the woman on the other side of all of that was going to be.
I expected to feel self-conscious, but instead I felt comfortable, feminine, confident and cared for. Carmen created an environment where I didn’t feel like I needed to perform or know how to pose or somehow be “good” at having my picture taken. I could just be there and let her see me. The photographs are beautiful, but what I treasure most is what the experience represented. It marked a moment in my life when I was beginning to understand that starting over didn’t have to mean failure or loss. It could be intentional. It could even be beautiful.
